City Club Buys St. Thomas Preservation Hall

StThomasExteriorWe are expanding!  Check out the press release below and the link to the Star-News article for the full story:
City Club of Wilmington expands downtown footprint.
Acquisition of nearby historic building/event space will enhance offerings

Wilmington, NC: City Club Partners acquire downtown event center St. Thomas Preservation Hall at 208 Dock St. for an undisclosed figure. Jonathan Weiss and David Topping made their 2nd purchase in Historic Downtown Wilmington on Aug. 29th through their holding company TopWeiss, LLC (which also owns the deRosset House at 23 S. 2nd St., home to The City Club of Wilmington).

City Club’s new general manager Poppy Tugwell will continue to run St. Thomas as one of Historic Downtown’s premier event and wedding venues.  “I am excited to be a part of the City Club and even more so with the addition of Saint Thomas Preservation Hall. We will continue to offer the same superior service to our City Club Members as well as our new Saint Thomas event clients”, Tugwell said.  Those interested in booking weddings or events should contact Poppy at 910.343.1880 ext 210 or poppy@cityclubatderosset.com Photo gallery of St. Thomas – http://www.saintthomaspreservationhall.com/gallery/

Weiss and Topping are also partnered in several successful multi-family apartment complexes together.  With their history of “hands on” supervision combined with the vast experience of The City Club staff, brides and event clients have reason to be excited about this addition.  “David and I are thrilled about the latest addition to our portfolio. The City Club and St. Thomas were both built in the 1840’s and we were in dire need of a large event venue…it seemed like a perfect fit. With the recent addition of many more hotel rooms and the fact that there is no need for out of town guests to rent a car, Historic Downtown Wilmington has become the perfect location to host a wedding,” Weiss said.

About City Club of Wilmington: City Club is a private dining/social club and wedding/event venue located inside the de Rosset mansion in the heart of  historic downtown Wilmington.  The property also includes lush, tiered gardens and 6 luxurious suites to accommodate overnight guests.  Find out more athttp://cityclubatderosset.com/

4th Annual Gatsby Gala Recap & Photos

WOW!  Another amazing Gatsby Gala this year!  Check out the below excerpt from Style Girl Jess James’ website:

At Jess Jamegatsby2014_kusekss’ 4th annual Great Gatsby Gala presented by Pat Kusek of Kusek Financial Group at The City Club, guests enjoyed delicious food, Prohibition era cocktails, 1920‘s live music in the garden and in the mansion with Chanteuse Nnenne Terzian and The Justin Lacy Swingtet and the chance to become a member of The City Club at an incredible savings with a VIP ticket.

Coveted prizes were awarded for the “Bee’s Knee’s” best dressed contest and names were drawn for the silent auction benefiting our local Make A Wish.

Gatsby models were styled by Jess James in 1920‘s finery from aMuse, A Second Time Around, Lumina Gem & Cape Fear Formal Wear with hair by Rockin’ Roller Salon and Makeup by Amy Kennison. Jazz Age dancers shook their fringe and bared their knee-highs doing The Charleston while members and VIP guests took in the burlesque show in the speakeasy below.

Artist Kat Christian sketched portraits in the garden while Cammeron Batanides worked on a live painting encompassing the joie de vivre of the enchanting evening set off with twinkling Edison lights in the garden and beaded curtains throughout the mansion via Kickstand Events.

Below is your first peek at event coverage by the incredible Lisa Brown of Bella Rose Photography. This is only just a taste! To find out who won Best Dressed, which revelers made it to The Blind Elephant Speakeasy After-Party and what kind of shenanigans went on in the Gatsby Photo Booth + Bella Rose’s Photo Link (to purchase your Gatsby photos), you’ll simpy have to wait for next Friday’s FASHION FIX! Promise it will be worth the wait. xo
